Anyone ever use holidaylettings.co.uk? Good experience? Booking a house in Tenerife and price is about a third cheaper than other sites?

Tripadvisor say that they are ....

one of the three companies within the TripAdvisor group that provides an online platform and various tools and services that enable property owners or managers (“Owners”) to list rental properties ...

    See section 1.2 ....

So u deal solely with owner of accommodation? Presume it’s cheaper for a property owner to deal with them than a booking engine such as booking.com? Does this make it any more or less risky? I can’t find much negativity online about them.

I used it once for a place in Puerto Banus. All went fine, very straightforward

If it’s owned by TripAdvisor, then you should be well covered.

We let a property in Lanzarote through ownersdirect.co.uk. The traveler pays a deposit at the beginning, then the balance a couple of weeks before traveling. The payment does not reach the owner until 2 days after the traveler has reached the apartment. So financially it’s very secure. The property can then be rated which brings them up the listing, so it’s in their best interest to make sure things go well. Both owner and traveler pay a small fee, but it’s a very busy site and there seems to be a big selection.

They are owned by Tripadvisor which means they are not going to take your money and disappear.

Don't pay through Western Union or Bank Transfer or you will have zero protection.

Used it once or twice a year for the last 5 years in Spain and Tenerife. Some owners try to bypass the payment system to avoid the commission, in other cases all is through the system. The first scenario is riskier. I have done it both ways, but always heavily influenced by number and content of reviews, the availability calendar which will also indicate demand, and the type of interactions with owner/agent. For a lot of properties you may be dealing with a local agent rather than the owner directly.
