hi does anyone know how long it would take to come through the post if you have been caught by the garda? all they did was look at license and took picture of the car and then told to move off out of the bay. it happend 2 weeks ago. asking for a friend. thanks

Why did the Garda take a picture of your car your 'friend's' car?

Are you sure it wasn't a traffic warden?

Should just be a mandatory tow away and 280 euros to get your car back with a 50% increase every 30 days until you pay it or they sell your car.

No excuses for parking in a disabled bay unless you are entitled to do so.

Two women quite rough looking got out of a car yesterday with a blue badge left on dash- bet it was their parents - parked in a disabled spot

Local traffic warden has a blue badge in my locality,
Spotted her parking her suv in a disabled parking bay yesterday, placed her blue badge on her dash,
and politely stepped out of it armed with ticket book to go on the prowl,
this was at 11.40am yesterday, It was still parked there at 3.30pm while she diligently handed out tickets. :(

Each Parking Badge has a number on it. You can report them for fradulent use of the permit by ringing The Irish Wheelchair Association & quoting the number. They are very helpful.

And how do you know she is not entitled to it?

Should fine them a percentage of their income

    She is entitled to it.
But where she parked and left her car for hours while dishing out tickets to other people shopping in a town that is crying out for Christmas custom! And on top of that. She could have very easily parked in the local council offices parking spaces where she is also entitled to, which would free up a spot for someone needing to park near a shop to purchase something.

Don't get me wrong, I know exactly how valuable these parking card are.

I know a 21 year old lady... absolutely cracking looking, who if you saw in pull up in a disabled parking bay and walk away would cause many people to be annoyed. But, she is on morphine patches and very strong prescription pain relief as she is waiting for a hip replacement.

She wont use a disabled badge because she says she is still more mobile than a "lot more deserving people" and is probably aware that she may get some abuse.

Its not always possible to "diagnose" people from what you see!

Just because there is a bay and you have a badge doesn't mean you have to use it. That warden is a terrible example of entitledness.

I would never ever abuse a disabled bay. When my late Mother had a blue badge, I even felt really guilty parking in a bay when she was with me. How do people live with their conscience?

If she doesn’t have the badge then she shouldn’t park there.

What difference does it make to her not having the badge, if she parks there she’s still taking up a space, badge or no badge.

The more people do it, the more others will try it “ah sure I’m just popping in for a minute.”

This is exactly why I got annoyed,
that same warden had a go off me in one of my local car parks one time because I was stopped where there were no parking lines and said I was parked illegally. I told her if she knew her place she would get lost pretty quickly. This was the moment she produced her book, I asked her what her intentions were and she said she was giving me a ticket for being illegally parked. I asked her could she hear my engine running and did she not notice me on the phone? to which she replied "yes" to both.
I then told her she needs to learn the difference between stopped to take a call and Parked, and would she like to take this matter up in the local Garda station, to which she smirked and said" Your word against mine"
I happily pointed her to my dashccam that was running and asked her would she like for me to produce this in the station as evidence that I was stopped to take a call, which I reminded her was what the law required me to do, and at that point I asked her again would she like to get lost and allow me to continue my phone call to my solicitor who was listening to the conversation.
She smiled and walked away. :D

Don't think stopping on yellow lines is actually allowed just because you're taking/making a call.

EDIT Just re-read your post, yeah you might get away with it in a car park but I wouldn't try it as an excuse on the road.

She would only be entitled to a permit if she has a primary medical certificate.
A Primary Medical Certificate confirms you are severely and permanently disabled and:

Are completely or almost completely without the use of both legs or
Are completely without the use of one of your legs and almost completely without the use of the other leg to the extent that you are severely restricted as regards movement in your legs or
Are without both hands or both arms or
Are without one or both legs or
Are completely or almost completely without the use of both hands or arms and completely or almost completely without the use of one leg or
Have the medical condition of dwarfism and serious difficulties of movement of the legs

If she doesn't fit those specifications then she should apply and the case is judged on merit
The medical criteria for issue of the EU parking permit are strict and only persons whose mobility is severely and permanently restricted qualify. These criteria were revised and clarified in the Department of Transport’s ‘Review of the Disabled Parking Scheme 2010’. The primary legislation for the purposes of EU parking permit defines a disabled person as:

“A person with a permanent condition or disability that severely restricts their ability to walk”

Applicants, with the exception of Primary Medical Cert holders or those already registered blind, must have a medical practitioner complete the medical section of the application, describing the applicant’s level of mobility and certifying the accuracy of same. As a general guideline the permit is aimed at persons who can only walk very short distances without assistance. Specific measures for the degree of impairment of lung capacity and the severity level of heart conditions which apply are given in the published Guidelines for Medical Practitioners: follow this link -https://goo.gl/97wah

If she's holding down a job as a parking control warden, which I assume involves walking around I'd like to know how she qualifies for the permit.

I was not stopped on any lines, never mind yellow ones. There were no marking whatsoever where I was stopped.

She had something happen her a few years back and she was on crutches and off work for over a year, but now she appears to be fighting fit again to the extent of being able to carry out her job.

Maybe you will name the town where this "Disabled" traffic warden operates. That way we can park legally and avoid any confrontation with her.

To be honest, the way things are going this day and age, A person would want to be very wary about specific details online, you never know the consequences.
But then again, a look through some of my posts might just give a hint of where I live :D

Never mind where you live or park get the permit number and voice people's concerns about the abuse to the relevant authorities. In this case
