Where to get radiator valve 'spindle'?

Have an old radiator where the lockhead value has seized. I can remove the entire spindle using a 15mm socket, but where can these be got? Seems you can only buy the entire valve, but I'm not going to attempt that.

To remove the spindle the system will need to be drained anyway. You might as well replace the valve if the system is drained.

But if I just change the spindle it will only be flowing for 20sec max, I can easily soak up the water and bleed air out later. Am I missing something, it seems like a very simple job.

I would replace the entire valve as its a better job.

If you really just want to replace the spindle why not buy the new valve & use the spindle from that.

Feel free to try your method , but there's a reason plumbers don't replace spindles. You would be surprised how much water could flow in 20 seconds it won't be a gentle trickle .

I would recommend draining and replacing the valve

Especially if it's a pressurised system.

Its likely just the rubber 0-rings in the spindle need replacing.

as the Op says, its possible to do it quickly and easily if you are setup right.
Although its impossible to estimate the amount of water that gets out; I wouldn't do it again to be honest..

Getting the correct O rings is another matter entirely...

Got it replaced with a salvaged one anyway, put down a few towels, I'd say about half a pint of black stuff got out!
