    Hi guys,

I want to replace the belts in my 530d e39 and am unsure

What to change at the same time for pulls and tensioner. ?

Anyone have any advise on what HAS to be changed to make the belt swop worth while.I will be doing the waterpump with it.

Just go with the tensioner and the water pump the rest don’t give any trouble at all ever. In fact I’d even go as fr as to say the tensioner would be ok to leave because I’ve never seen them give trouble on that engine. But if u feel happier changing it then by all means work away and do it no harm.
Need anything else just ask pal

Once you have the belts off you should be able to check the condition of all the pulleys by spinning them by hand. If they spin freely and loudly then they are likely worn out and worth replacing. New ones will feel smooth to spin, and won't spin long when you give them a flick.

If this engine is anything like the petrols, removing the belts is easy. So you could remove the old belts, check the pulleys and then order whatever you think is needed and replace the old belts with new. As for the tensioners, it's up to you I think. I'd probably replace them, but I'm not certain how accessible they are on this engine.
