Reporting a dangerous car on the road

    Howdy folks,

Is there a number you can contact to report dangerous vehicles on the road?

There's a car driving around the Navan area with most of the rear passenger side destroyed, you can see the rear suspension and the bodywork is being held together with duct tape, you can clearly see a gap between the panels and the rear windscreen.

Normally i wouldn't give a flying, but they had kids in the back the last time I saw them and surely that wouldn't provide much protection if they were in a crash?

I don't think the emergency number is the right one to call, the local station perhaps?

Garda TrafficWatch number is 1890 205805 I think, you report the car to them & a Guard will ring you back about it within a day or two.

Try the local station, in my experience they will respond if they feel there's a genuine concern.

I rang that Garda confidential number before when an artic driver came up behind me and practically bullied me off the road into the hard shoulder to let him overtake when I was doing 95-100 kph in a 100 kph zone.... for some bizarre reason a few people on this forum seem to be convinced articulated lorries don't go over 80 kph on Irish roads btwrolleyes.png. Anyway she took my details and asked me if I would be prepared to come to court as a witness down the line if it ever came to that. Overall the whole experience seemed, well, somewhat pointless for some reason. I believe the vehicle must be reported 7 times to this line before any action is taken.

I’d be more concerned if the front of the car was destroyed. If it was me I would just leave it. Maybe the car is the persons only means of transportation and could end up losing their job if it was taken off them.

Somebody working on the force told me some time later as I recall, in a social setting. Then again professionals can be wrong. I've learned that my cost more than once.
