Thoughts on my advert

    Lads,
Selling the wife's car at the minute. At least trying to sell!
Take a look at the advert and let me know what you think. I haven't had one phone call. Not one.
I think I need to do some better interior shots, I will do this at the weekend.
Have I it priced mad high?
I appreciate they are not a desirable badge, but all things considered it's surely not a bad buy.
    Or is it???
All thoughts appreciated. I need to move it on ASAP.
    cheers!

Price seems pretty good to me if I was in the market for a car like that I'd be considering yours. How does it compare to others pricewise?

    Negatives:

High enough mileage for the year. My 2006 has more or less the same for example

You are in mayo away from large population centres

Ireland not mad on the estate car for some reason.

It's a Vauxhall not an opel which matters to some people

    Thanks,
The badge and the estate are certainly not helping.
I think it's one of the cheapest, if not THE cheapest 2013 Astra estate on donedeal!!
Even over a couple of estates with galactic mileage.
It's frustrating coz, in my humble opinion, its a decent car for the money. All things considered.
But not one phone call in 5 days... I'd even appreciate a call from the obligatory timewaster offering me €1,500, a lowered VW polo and 3 good greyhounds.!!

Yes the fact it is an estate reduces the number of people interested. (Mad I know)
    Location is also an issue.
Reduce price to under 6k and see how you get on.

How come there is a warning on the NCT section that the seller has manually amended this date?

    Thanks,
If I have to go below €6k it's barely worth selling!!

I have been on to donedeal about that and they haven't replied. When I originally put the advert up I inputted the reg number and donedeal pulled in ask the relevant info from that.
It pulled in the NCT expiry as August 2017, which is incorrect. I contacted them and they manually changed it, but then that warning went up. So I contacted them again and they never replied.
I articulated in my email to them that it makes my advert look dodgy, but I haven't got any response and that was a couple of days ago now.
Disappointing customer service from donedeal, but not much I can do. They don't seem to have a contact number, just contact by email. Which is slow.

Not a massive deal but I suppose its just one thing that struck me when I looked at the ad. Other than that it seems like a good ad to me other than details you cant change such as high mileage etc but it is priced competitively.

If in a rush to sell, drop the price. If not, wait it out. A buyer will come. Good car for the money really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 462 ✭✭com1

Initially when looking at the ad I wondered why is there a 7 month delay in getting the NCT done. 2 thoughts entered my head (most likely wrongly but perception is perception after all)
    1) there was something major wrong with the car that needed the time to fix
    or
    2) the car was just imported and being sold by a small time trader (rather than an owner driver)

Maybe a picture of the service book with relevant stamps. And vacuum the boot and add a few more interior pictures. I would not be interested in traveling to view a car (which most will have to do) without seeing a few pictures of the interior. I wouldn't even bother ringing.

I am in the market myself at the moment (but not for a diesel Astra) and if there are no / bad pictures I just move on to the next ad. If the seller cant be Ar$ed then why should I? (not directed at you btw, your pics are good, there just needs to be a few more)

Seems good value if you were in the market for such a thing.

First thing that struck me was why was the car left without a Nct from aug17 to Feb18??
Alarm bells ring fof that reasons.
I would take out the part that it was just tested last week. You could explain over the phone if you have a genuine reason.

I sold a 2008 Corolla 1.4 d4d 2 weeks ago in Mayo with nearly 2yrs Nct, I had 2 calls and it went for 2300. It was a good car, only I needed an auto I'd have kept it.

To sell your car in Mayo I would say 4500-4750.
You might db better holding onto it.

You have to factor in location too. Your probably depending on local buyers, those looking for a car like that maybe small in the local area say compared to selling the same car in Dublin where there is a bigger population base. Time of year doesn't help either, short days and crap weather means that many people who are further away are not going to bother travel long distances to look at buying a car.

The honest answer to the NCT delay is that it got put on the long finger. We were building a house last year, moved in just before christmas!!
Both of us just forgot about it..!
Not much of an excuse but its the truth. Definately no major work carried out on it and it was inputted from northern ireland in Jan 2017 by us.

Jaysus. €4750 for a car that isn't even 5 years old.?
Surely it's not that bad. Is it?

I'd change your address to Dublin on the ad OP, and be prepared to show the car up there if needs be.

Vauxhall badge and MO reg are negatives unfortunately. Car looks decent apart from those.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,235 ✭✭✭✭Cee-Jay-Cee

I thought it was too cheap and people might think there is something up with the car and your looking for a quick sale to offload it.

If your in no rush to sell then just hang on a while, its not a great time of year to sell, crappy weather means people don't want to be travelling long distances to see a car so hold out for a month or two.

It certainly is a cheap car and has to be good value at that price for anyone looking for that sort of car.

Just saying it is something that would stand out to me... a picture of the service book with service dates visible would alleviate my concerns. We all forget stuff... :-) Happy new house by the way and good luck with selling the car! - looks like a bargain to me (but herself wants a petrol as all her journeys are short these days)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,904 ✭✭✭mgn

Don't worry to much about the location, people will travel for a car the want if the price is right.

I'd say OP as advised change location to Dublin if you are available to show the car in there.

Mayo seems to be no go for selling car.
I advertised my Honda for 4 months last year - very good car eventually lowered to really low price - not a single phone call.
I advertised my wife's Peugeot few week ago - really cheap nice car also now competitevly prices - not a single phone call.

None of the cars are sold. I'm just stuck here in Mayo with no ability to sell a car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,085 ✭✭✭W123-80's

Thanks for all the feedback lads. I have changed the location to Dublin. No problem showing the car there as I am out on the road anyway.
I will stick up photos of interior and service book later too.
    Thanks.!

    Update lads.
Price reduced to €6,000, almost 1,000 views and not one phone call..!! Not even a text message asking would I take €500 cash and a bag of calf nuts.
Warning to anyone out there.. Don't buy a vauxhall Astra unless you intend driving it into the ground..!
Which is what I will be doing at this point.

    how much?

    €5,850
He got a bloody decent set of wheels for that too. It is a genuinely well minded and good car. Similar spec and miles in the Focus, Golf, Ceed etc would be fetching alot more.
I guess the market dictates the price though, I priced it to sell and even at that only got one caller. The fact that he bought it suggests it was priced well.
The fact that I only got one phone call says more about the actual market for Astra estates than anything..!!
It's a 4.5 year old car, diesel engine, relatively well specced, well serviced and low tax for less than €6k.

Nice one. Makes me a bit unsure now on trying to move on my 132 zafira tourer. Vauxhall also imported by myself 12 months ago.

I might jump on this thread in a week or so if that's ok.
Do we have or have we had a thread on car ads/what's my car worth etc before or is it just a minefield?

The Zafira may not be as difficult to move on. It will appeal to families. My Astra was an estate and pretty much appealed to nobody!
The badge was wrong, the body style was wrong, it fell between stools I guess. The compact estate market is fairly small I would imaging and the likes of the focus, ceed etc probably have more kudos.

There is a buyer for every car.How long you have to wait is an other thing.
The Astra estate is not a great seller here but the likes of an Astra Sri hatchback will sell handy enough.

Congrats OP. As another poster said, there is a buyer for every car.

Do you think any of the suggestions made by posters here to improve your ad made a difference? (location change, interior photos, price reduction etc.)

I didn't bother to change the photos in the end, and I can't say whither our not the location change helped.
Without a doubt the price drop helped shift it. I had one caller and he bought it within 10 minutes!
But in fairness, the price drop was my own doing, most guys here thought my original asking of €6,750 was a good price!
Anyway, its sold now and I'm relatively happy with the price I got, so all good.
