Question about Self Employment while having a salaried position

    If I have a day job, with a salary as an employed person, but then on the side I make some extra income completely unrelated to my day-job, do I count as self-employed regarding the extra income?

    I am working on video game development on the side and I'm trying to plan ahead how it should be organised. If it works out very well I'll make a company but I won't commit to that until I make some decent bob on the first game so I know it's worth my while.

    If I have significant expenses as part of developing the game, can that be offset against my taxable income on the game income like a self-employed person? My normal salaried day job would be going on in the background during all of this.
