Peugeot 208 hdi, fiesta TDCI. Should be easy to get 60 mpg

Mid size more difficult for that budget and mon spec mpg

We have a 2010 fiesta 1.6 tdci and it does 40mpg around the city and will do 60mpg if you keep it at around the 65mph limit on the motorway. I presume a focus with the same engine will give similar mpg

Honda Civic 1.6 would be my choice

Cheers . Surprised at that. Would be thought it would comfortably do 60mpg and more that 40mpg city

Plenty of things will get 60mpg at 100kmph on motorway. Push it to 120kmph and you're struggling. My own guzzler 2.5 petrol will get 40mpg at 100kmph in those conditions.

Is 60mpg really regularly achievable in any car? On motorways perhaps if doing 100 but on back roads or any faster on the motorway I wouldn't think so. Most of my journeys the comp would come in 45 or there abouts, car is 11 years old tho. Diesel passat, with the caveat that is have a heavy right foot at times

You need hyper mile discipline to achieve that consistently. 80 to 100 kmh travel speed which requires the right type of roads and traffic to achieve day in day out.

Small car and small diesel engine driven very gently and with one goal in mind. 60mpg.

We get 40mpg from the fiesta doing an average speed of 16mph around town. 60mpg doing 60mph but once you go up to 70mph it drops to 50mpg. For the difference in a few mpg it’s not worth stressing out trying to keep it below a certain speed tbh

My fiesta econetic 1.0 petrol annual average is 50 mpg,80% motorway.

The best by far is i20 crdi 1.4 , also i20 blue drive. Both rare and higher priced.
Go into autotrader annd put in 60+ mpg in the selections and you should get another dozen to pick from.

Doesn't crack 60 according to honest john.

The 1.1 crdi does but it would be gutless. I think you'd be mad not to seriously consider the Civic if you are looking for good mpg, its also from the class above an i20.

I got 55mpg from a diesel fabia.... would have done better if kept to a Max cruise speed of 60mph I imagine.

    Read this thread carefully.
Experiment in getting 60mpg in real life using Polo BlueMotion

I reckon a Prius would do it. I got 50mpg from a ChR over a long weekend recently.... Heathrow to Gloucester return and lots of 10 mile trips while there (4 little spins a day for 3 days).

No dmf, dpf etc to go wrong.
