Recommend a disk for Sky+ HD box?

My Sky+ HD box is due for replacement tomorrow as it is operating in "diskless" mode. I intend to replace the faulty disk in the old box as soon as its replaced. Current disk is 500GB. Can someone recommend a similar or larger capacity replacement as I understand some disk drives are more suitable than others for this type of application?

Does sky not take back the old Sky box as part of the service call. ?

Possibly, especially if it is a free service call. It would depend on what sky's current policy is, if they don't get the boxes returned to them from the contractors then they are unlikely to care one way or the other.

OP I have replaced a few Sky+ HD disks and the Amstrad/Sky DRX 890 series models seem pretty tolerant of disks.

The largest they will take is 2TB, I used a few different types but my own boxes have regular Western Digital Green disks and have worked flawlessly for years.

I replaced my 500Gb with a 1TB a few years ago. The drive is no longer made, but you can try this one, which should be ideal.

I'd say the contractor would take it if it was still in warranty or if I asked him to but mine is several years old so it belongs to me. I believe its only with Sky Q that they retain ownership of the equipment.
