    Hey all,

Wondering if ye can give me abit of advice bought a 171 golf tsi from main dealer due to excessive wait times for new polo I ordered. The golf is perfect however I noticed the brakes my grinding not excessively but enough to notice and annoy me, I brought it back to them and then took it for the day they checked brakes etc and said there is nothing wrong and that it was brake dust combined with the cold weather. The noise is still there and it’s wrecking my head anyone shed any light of this... is it cause of the cold weather.

    Thanks in advance.

How many kms were on the car when you bought it? Might be the previous owner's driving habits that have glazed the pads and are causing them to make the noise.

There was 17k km on it. He said they look off all the pads and cleaned them and one of my buddies checked the pads and they look near perfect. Was going to go to my independent mechanic to see can he see the fault so I can bring it up to vw and say here. Here’s the issue fix it.

I don't know how willing they'll be to listen to your buddy or an indy mechanic's independent assessment of the car. If the noise is that bad, it might be best to hold off on mentioning any of that and instead, get someone from the dealership to accompany you on a test drive to replicate the issue. Maybe go from there then.

No dealer will entertain that, that'll be a sure fire way to get their backs right up. It'll be easy for the mechanic who won't be working on the car to write a lost of things that "could" fix it when he doesn't have to put his name to the work.

A dealer will only get paid to repair if they successfully fix the problem and the manufacturer won't let them spunk parts at it until they get it right.

Are the brakes squeaking or is it more subtle than that? If you Google noisy brakes on the Mk7 Golf it's a common complaint with them. To be fair our Golf Mk7 brakes can be a bit gritty if it's been parked over night but they are perfect after a minute or two of driving.

To an extent it stands to reason that an item made of untreated metal designed to create friction will make a bit of noise when left in a damp environment. That said the Golf seems very prone to it, possibly whatever the brake discs are made from?
