I got 242km from €25 of petrol the other day. Just average driving, I'm not heavy footed.

What do you normally get ?

Edit: 37.5 mpg according to my car.

6.8 to 8L/100km depending on weather on my mostly motorway 260km commute 2.4 petrol audi. Generally it's 7.5L but can be lower or higher with perfect or terrible conditions.

    41.5-35mpg.

this is going by the trip computer so real world is slightly worse as you'd expect but I haven't been doing brim tests so don't have those numbers.

Still trying to figure out what to replace it with

Driving extremely frugally.. helium in my shoes

5.8 in the winter currently with traffic and not being as bothered about fuel efficiency. In the summer with less traffic and just a slight improvement in driving I can get 5.2 or sometimes better (but not consistently).

    I do 480km a week and it cost 38 typically a week.

Average around 24 mpg don't know what it is in new money.

On long motorway spins and taking it easy (110-120kph) I've gotten 42mpg but 38mpg is the norm. Short trips it plummets to 26mpg or worse if its cold. 3 litre 535d.

I get a pretty terrible 25mpg from my old TT. www.fuelly.com is a good site for tracking - and also looking up real world results from various cars

Thought I was bad. I used to average 26 most of the time. 29-30 only if doing a long relaxed run.

Current car (420d) is around 38-39 so far.

A MK7 GTI will do 32-34 with mixed driving but higher 30's easily achieved on a long spin.

Same car, depends on driving style. Long motorway driving at around 3000 RPM(runs about 50 odd MPH in old money) nudging and sometimes going over 40 to the gallon, hell for leather naughty driving more like 20 something MPG. I'd average low 30's in general suburban driving I'd reckon. So pretty similar to yourself PC and figures I've regularly been doubted about, but it'll do it. I reckon most get much less because they have heavy right feet and VTEC addiction. :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I get more than that from my six cylinder E46, and that's as old as the hills and no direct injection or stop start or fuel saving technology of any kind.

I've seen 33 mpg out of mine on motorway runs, that's doing exactly the speed limit so not driving like a Granny or anything like that. I've had mine for 1 year and 2 months, in the 8,000 miles I've clocked up my average is 27.6 mpg. I know a Golf R has a lot more power than mine and nobody buys one for fuel economy but it's still supposed to do 9 mpg more than mine according to the official tests so it should surely do at least 30 mpg in the real world!

A lot more power is putting it mildly. It’s a 300 bhp AWD 4.5 seconds to 60 hot hatch. Not really comparable to an old 6 cyl bmw to be fair. What do you expect. 30mpg is achievable in the real world but one man’s real world is different to the next man. For my driving patterns, 26 ish was more the norm.

52 mpg. 1.5 dci megane. Do around 1000km per week and spend around 60 quid in juice.

I'm driving a ten year old 3.2l Golf R32. If I'm on a motorway at 100kph I'll average 32-34mpg all day long, it's the city driving that drinks the petrol.
Where is this 'real world'? :D
