We'd like to bring our dad to the grand prix in Italy as a surprise birthday present this year. He is a big fan.
I have no idea how to go about this... ie tickets and accomodation etc...if there is a place to go to get packages to make things easy for us is be grateful for any info.

    Tickets can be bought here:

I think flying to Milano (ryanair and I presume Aer Lingus), staying there and taking train or bus to Monza is your best option. There is about 50 minute train ride to Monza so it shouldn't be too bad. I haven't been to Monza (oh was) but usually it is very easy to find transport to the track from bigger towns/cities in vicinity of track. I'm sure if you google it would be perfectly easy to find race weekend packages but it's very easy to organize something by yourself.

If I was you, I'd go to Monaco. It's probably the nearest you can sit to a Formula One car being driven in anger. It's usually not what you could call a race - but it's one of the great sporting events. And doesn't have to be that expensive. Biggest cost is the ticket in, budget €500 or so. Go to Monaco on Saturday but watch qualifying in a bar and soak up the atmosphere. You can walk the track when qualifying is over. Try that in Monza:P. Fly to and stay in Nice - there's hotels from 7 stars to fleapits, or AirBnB - you pays your money and takes your choice. The train then leaves you right in the centre of Monaco. You can eat & drink at not outrageous prices if you're not too fussy, and the atmosphere is terrific, particularly in Nice old town on that weekend. Only fly in the ointment is that you might find it hard to get a flight at a reasonable cost at this stage.

I'll second Monaco/Nice. I did it 12 years ago and it was epic. We did stands for the practise sessions and General Admission (The Big hill at the last 2 corners) for Qualy and the Race. The atmosphere on the hill is something else but you're not close to the track. Definitely get a stand ticket for at least one session as steinbock said its electric being that close to the cars being driven in anger.
