Unsure if apartment has a phone/broadband line

Myself and the girlfriend ordered broadband from Vodafone recently, and had an engineer show up today for installation. When he opened up the old eircom line boxes (t he little white ones) in the bedroom, we were surprised to find they were't actually connected to anything, and there doesnt seem to be any nearby wiring where a connection was previously. The landlord hasn't been much help, he says he hasn't a clue. Theres a locked cabinet downstairs beside the ESB metres which the engineer thought might have some phone line connections, but the landlord doesnt have a key for it (???). One of the other aparments in the building seems to have a line, as it will show up on the availability checker on eir/vodafone etc. websites, but theres a chance thats actually the takeaway downstairs.

Is there any way for me to check if there is/was a line into the apartment short of physically finding it? And if there isn't, do I need to go through Eir for line installations, is there much cost involved?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, there doesnt seem to be straightforward answers to them on the providers websites! Thanks!

Does the complex have a management agent? Your landlord should be contacting them. They may have to arrange for the maintenance man to be there simultaneously with the OpenEir Tech.

Not that I'm aware of, it's a small building, 3 apartments above and a takeaway below. I think the landlord only bought them relatively recently, and he doesnt really seem to have a clue. There were wee phone/broadband line boxes in the bedroom, and what looked like a covering for riring tunning up to the ceiling on one of the walls, but there's no sign of any actual wiring in any of them. The engineer seemed pretty perplexed by the whole thing. I'm guessing Ill probably need a new line installed, just seems a bit odd all that would be there with no evidence of an actual line, connected or not! The landlord seems to be leaving it in our hands anyway, doesnt seem too interested in trying to find out.

Get permission from the LL to drill if needed then call few a new appointment. Otherwise he needs to get a sparks to find the existing drop and run a link between there and your apartment.
