    Moved out from old thread

Start with replacing air filter (perhaps also the sparkplugs if they are old) and throw in a bottle of fuel system cleaner.
Drive it hard for a few days and get a local mech to check the readings again, you could get lucky.

It could be the EGR or something else like the cat but start with the cheaper stuff.

Hey I had failed the emissions as well. And done a service. I changed air filter and spark plugs and oil and oil filter. I then purchased two 1 litre bottles of Dipetane. I put €30 of petrol in the car one day and a litre of Dipetane and drove to empty over a few days but I drove the car hard to clear out all the gunk. Then the day before the NCT I put another €30 of petrol in the tank with another litre bottle of Dipetane and drove a small bit hard not excess or anything. But I did drive the car hard up for a lap or two on the road outside the NCT test centre before going in. And passed emissions today with flying collours. The readings were very low. I cannot believe how good that stuff is. It costs €12 for a 1 litre bottle worth every penny.

If it failed on only high co reading then it can only be the cat. A good hard drive before the test to get the cat nice and hot will help but you may be looking at replacement with that reading. It is definitely not your sparkplugs or airfilter etc

    https://www.dipetane.com/

Works a treat, my car failed in 2014, used this in retest and ever since and no failure on emissions since.
