I see the gene Ireland bulls for 2018 are released.

The LM LM4356 LOOKS good and the ch ch4320 has
    Surprisingly Good figures for milk.

    Any thoughts?

That CH bull has two very maternal French bulls in his breeding so I'm not surprised his milk is good...will it stay that way is the question

I cant see the point of buying completely new unproven bulls for €5 when you can get proven, tried and tested bulls for €8-€12.
I see NCBC are the only Ai company taking part now, the rest of them want nothing to do with it.
The terms and conditions on the back of the sign up form make interesting reading.
No.6 says "Herd Owners must maintain suitable insurance including public liability, employers liability, buildings and vehicle. Evidence of such insurance must be supplied to ICBF on demand".
What business of ICBF is any of that.
Im surprised they didnt demand that farmers hand over one of their kidneys also.

He’s a nice thick bull too
See LZF in pic instead of CH4218

    LZF is the sire.

I got some straws from them a few years ago. I won’t do it again. Unproven bulls aren’t worth using if you are only saving €5

I used gene Ireland bulls once, got on fine
They call out and weight all my weanlings just to get info on 1 or 2 which isn't so bad.
When that started were we supposed to get a payment for submitting info, maybe not?

They could have used their imagination with the Limousin bulls. 2 out of the 3 are sired by Ampertaine Commander.

One of my bulls is a Celtic benny son. He's the sire of rubyjen here's Jonny. He's a lovely long thick bull with style. Nice size head with nice shape.

I've seen Celtic benny in the flesh and he's the most impressive bull I've ever seen across any breed. Long lovely head and the most muscular sim iv ever seen.

My other bull is a half brother to the kickams handsom bull in the sim lineup, (same dam, but out of bossman) He's a real nice thick bull. A little bit short but easy calved and very well suited to a more raw cow. Plenty of milk behind him.

Great point. I'm not going to bother with the gamble. When think about it Icbf should be paying us to use these straws

I could be wrong but i think when this scheme started first the straws were free and farmers were paid €20 for every sucessful insemination.
Im open to correction on this.
I know new bulls have to be tried somewhere but ive noticed that ICBF are incluned to give low calving difficulty figures to new bulls and this figure often increases a lot when the calves start arriving. All the risk is with the farmer.

The only way I'd use Gene Ireland bulls is if their progeny were counted as part of the 4 and 5 star requirement for BDGP by default - i.e. if I wasn't penalised if they turned out to be 2 or 3 star animals.
I'd be giving them a shot but the BDGP removes the appetite for risk.

In angus carigroe bull nice out cross but other bull is a grandson of Peter Pershore and I would not touch them with a barge pole in pedigrees anyway as lots of bad traits.

Know nothing of that Peter Pershore bull so just looked him up...his figures are decent? What's the issue with him?441062.PNG

Someone Peter Pershore had issues with white and growing horns..even in pedigree... big plain cattle so would suit suckler possibly.. but zero value to pedigree as potential issue in future

if i order straws from gene ireland they are delivered to dovea (who gas my tank) and dovea drop them to me and bill me

thats how they have always done it for me anyway and it was always 5 a straw but bought 10 of lm5422 in last few months and just got statement looking for 85 euros
    must query it

all cleared up today, mistake by dovea, should have be 5

Perhaps Dovea are taking a cut for themselves?

I had gene Ireland straws before - AI company charged 18e each including straw and insemination.
It didn’t work out all that cheaper than picking one of their own proven bulls.

i think gene ireland dairy straws are 8.50 so maybe thats where the mistake was, if you have your own tank its worth a punt on a few straws at 5 euros each i think
