Folks, can I just clarify the right of way at this junction. When I approach it I'm going straight ahead. Road signage prior to this lists the road I'm on as minor and this as a major but it also lists it as a T-Junction and not a crossroads. In my mind I should be giving way to the cars to my right before proceeding straight ahead.
The reason I ask is that all too often when I stop and wait for any cars to my right to move, they seem uncertain as to who should move first and often beckon me to go on. It is the car to my right that has right of way, isn't it?

    The road in question.

1st thing is look right, they should stop but this is Ireland then obviously check left but be aware anything coming towards you has a yield sign.

Stop... Read the road... If you are at stop line before another at another stop sign you have priority but it may not work as most just continue on.

Best way around is give way to others and be careful of people letting out as other vehicles or cyclists could be coming the other way.

it seems confusing because you are entering a cross road, followed by a Y Junction. You need to think of them independently.

Overall I wouldn't get too worried about "Right of Way," when coming to a junction, always be prepared to give way. As you've noticed the other driver stopped and clearly didn't know that they should have proceeded. There's plenty who'll just plough through without giving it any sort of thought. You were lucky not to contend with that!

Ah I'm not stressed when at the junction, just wanted to make sure that I had assessed it correctly. As you say, lots don't realise they actually have right of way and I take the junction with plenty of care and attention.

    Hi,

as Dravokivich sez, you break the junction down, take one segment at a time.

Any non standard junction, if you are unsure of the correct procedure, take care as there is a very strong possibility that other users would also be unsure. Or more potentially dangerous, be certain but of the wrong procedure.

Regarding traffic to the right, There is a Stop sign, so (legally) they must stop. All stop signs are equal, and Stop sign procedure, "stop, and only move off if safe to do so". Therefore if both of you are stopped depends on who moves off first, the other must then stay, wait until clear.

To avoid both of you sitting there all day going "No - after You" , "No No - After You" the unwritten rules takes over.

For example, BMW would of course go before a Fiat or Ford

    And male before female

There used to be regular accidents there before the additional STOP signs were added. It's an unusual junction all the same not helped by the bend on the R125 and trucks barreling through.
