Just acquired a new bike, does anyone have any experience with insuring their triathlon bike at all ?

    Feel free to move mods.

Triathlon Ireland have been promoting these guys recently,

    https://bikmo.ie/triathlon-ireland

No experience of using them but the quotes are too high for me.

Cheers, just tried the site but agree the premium is expensive. Alot of search results seem to be redirecting to www.bicycleinsurance.ie which is about 33% cheaper than www.bikmo.ie

I just looked into this last month, and it worked out a lot cheaper (even allowing for loss of ncd on the house insurance in the event of a claim) to add two bikes as a specified risk on the house insurance than bicycleinsurance. Less onerous conditions too. I couldn't get an online quote though, I had to phone.

+1. Named as specified risks on my home policy without too much fuss.

Problem with inclusion on home contents insurance is there seems to be a fairly low limit on the cost of the bike. Liberty insurance for example wont cover bikes costing more than 600 euros and theres no mention of what happens if the bike is damaged while out on the road.

My insurer didn't raise any issue with value - similar to adding an engagement ring or similar as specific items. Shop around with other insurers.

If you have an accident on the road whilst training caused by another vehicle, you would hope to have recourse via their insurance.

123.ie allowed me to add my new tt bike onto our existing home insurance policy just last week. They were initially not prepared to cover bikes plus wheels for their full value but when we said we'd shop around for home insurance that would cover them they backed down

I did mention having to phone - online there seems to be a limit on values, but I could get quotes when I phoned up.

I didn't question it specifically, but i assumed the accidental damage would cover on the road.

The specialist insurers seemed to have a longer list of conditions for theft as well from my comparison of the quotes.
