Are all routers universal?

I'm thinking of getting a new router to at least slightly boost the speed of my Internet that eir is ripping me off with. I was wondering if a change would help and also if I can just swap out the standard eir f1000 and it'd work like normal.

No ... Not all routers are universal and it really depends on what type of ADSL/VDSL you have right now and what you want the router to do in the future.

Generally, you obviously would need a router, that has a VDSL modem build in. Some don't (cable type routers).

Then you need to check, if it supports the standard of broadband connection you have. A router that only does ADSL2+ won't be able to connect on VDSL. A VDSL router should be able to handle an ADSL2 line.

Then you need to decide, what you want from your router. Maybe explain why you want to replace it. You could also flash your F1000 with the newer ZyXEL firmware. There's a thread for that here on boards.

    /M
