Is SJWism not just a new, rebranded form of sexual puritanism?

So now the Formula 1 grid girls have been scrapped, christ what's next? UFC girls, James Bond girls, everything sexy will be gone. I just saw Bernie Ecclestone on Sky News getting roasted for daring to say that the country is getting a bit prudish. The Sky news anchor asked him about the short skirts and he said what short skirts, and she said "look at our clips, you wouldn't see that in Arab countries would you?"... with no discernable irony in her voice.

SJWism has basically come full circle, back to the very thing those same people despised so much - sexual repression and strictness. It's now just a rebranded sexual puritanism, along the lines of strict Islam or old Catholicism. It's funny how she straight out came out and accidentally admitted she wanted to be more like Arab countries.

While Harvey Weinstein's behaviour shocked most people, there's been a bunch of people coming out with allegations of other grossly inappropriate behaviour in Hollywood and beyond for far less reason, for example James Franco is now being accused of "sexual abuse" by trying to get women to perform in sexual film roles: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/news/james-franco-talks-sexual-misconduct-allegations-on-colbert-w515270

Women might feel pressurized to take part in a sexual scene to maximize their earning potential and career. Big whoop? If they want to perform in one they can... males don't even get the chance to be sexual most of the time. Nobody said life was fair, for either men or women.

Its a complete crock of shíte. None of those girls were forced to parade on the pit lane, they were all willing participants and well paid for the job they done. This stupid shíte has to stop and yet again no one person or group has been highlighted as the source of the outrage that spurned this move. No one actually cares, its a ridiculous situation dreamed up by the media as a whole.

Loose women will be called Loose Beings!

The PDC darts women have also been shelved.

The main model has been doing it for over 5 years. She's really upset about it, she has been put of a job.

Surely free will and personal choice have to be considered, imposing blanket bans on this type of thing is weird.

The church were doing this 20 years ago, now they don't have to.

Oh you better believe it. The new tyranny will be every bit as oppressive as the old. It also takes away choice. Presumably these women chose of their own free will a career of looking pretty in mini skirts and getting a slice of the jetset formula one lifestyle. The priesthood and their doctrine of victimhood do not approve.

There's a strangely old-fashioned view of women that's become increasingly prevalent of late too:
delicate, vulnerable, innocent creatures who need constant protection from sex-crazed, bestial men.

    It's positively Victorian.

seen one comment earlier on twitter, which was directed at one of these girls who said that she had been let go by her management company and was now unemployed as all of their business was gone (not just F1, but promotions in general). the man said along the lines of - "it is degrading towards woman, they are being made to feel they are lesser importance and just servents etc etc. "

these girls make their choice to do this. as do men. the world if getting to become a right sh*t place to live.

this isnt SJWism, this is bitter people who are just jealous of better looking woman getting more publicty, money and everything else than them.

just wonder, will they remove for example ballboys at Wimbledon next summer now who "serve" the female players?

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, Formula One decide they no longer want to use random pretty women and people are worried about the tyrannical left coming to take all their sexy things? Where there campaigns against the women being used or something? Sounds like Formula One are simply making changes to their look to appeal to a wider range of people. Is anybody really going to say that this will change their attraction to the sport?

nahuh, if you did that you can be guaranteed there'll be someone complaining there are only 'binary genders' represented and you're not being inclusive enough.

I think first world society has definitely gotten more "safe" in the last 10-20 years. Look at the music industry, I can't think of anyone in the charts now as edgy as say Guns N Roses for instance or the grunge/rock bands of the 90s

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,217 ✭✭✭✭B.A._Baracus

    It's all bs.
It's all social media anyways. Some dopey and foolish 18 year old posts about how something is wrong yadda yadda. His or her little mates like it and share it. Then some news website picks up on it (they need crap to talk about) then suddenly it's a 'thing'.... Take friends being racist as an example.

I never used the term snowflake before but it does describe these knob jockeys. Just give in and end it all if things like friends being racist etc or some ring girl in a thong offends.

The bloody definition of a first world problem on display here... and it was never a problem to begin with. The girls add glamour to the sports/events and what of it? It's part of the presentation. They seem to enjoy their work and obviously fans like them too. These kunt nuggets demanding their removal would be better placed fighting for actual causes where people are discriminated against or face authentic hardships, maybe single fathers or something like that. That's not sexy enough though, ironically.

The counter culture of the 60's railed against the atomic 'pleasentvile' family. That is now long dead.

I would say since about the year 2000 we have edged back towards the Puritan, paternal society of earlier times. Some people have mentioned that the church used to do this back in the day. The only difference now is that men with a collar have been swapped with some guy with a twitter account who is 'woke' or some woman 'journalist' berating people on TV for daring to think differently.

I am just glad more and more people are now seeing this nonsense for what it is.
Next up for the chop, sexy girls in computer games.

We will be a society of dull colourless and lifeless people ruined by a bunch of insecure idiots.

Horseshoe theory is widely regarded as bullsh!t but I'd make an exception when it comes to the alt-right and SJWs. They're terrifyingly similar in their methods and the outcomes of what they pedal if they got their way in law - even though their driving ideology is diametrically opposed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,165 ✭✭✭Captain Obvious

Again, nothing about a campaign against the grid girls. What it says is
commercial operations director Sean Bratches said the custom of using grid girls "does not resonate with [the] brand values [of F1] and clearly is at odds with modern day societal norms." "We don’t believe the practice is appropriate or relevant to Formula 1 and its fans, old and new, across the world," he added.

So basically they've done their market research and come to the conclusion that pretty girls only appeal to a limited part of the market

The women involved made the choice to model etc but The Formula 1 and PDC have every right to choose to stop hiring them as well. I don't think its SJW gone mad or anything for them to think 'why are we wasting money on this ****e that adds nothing and makes our product look backwards and small time'

That isn't what this is about, and I'm pretty sure you know that. It's about (a) people pressuring media companies to change their content purely based on offended sensibilities, and (b) media companies caving in to this pressure. A lot of us fundamentally believe that this is bad for society. The content is irrelevant, it's the principle of both the desire these people have to control it, and the willingness to let these people control it.

    Absolutely agree.

And comedy has moved towards the like of Michael McEntyre. I still think that he is kind of funny but there's no edge to it. It's 'safe'.

David McSavage is an exception these days and he is not everyone's cup of tea by a long shot.

Yes you are. You're offended that Formula One no longer shares your vision of what the sport should be. They've decided to focus on the cars, you want pretty women.
That isn't what this is about, and I'm pretty sure you know that. Except nobody has been able to produce any evidence of pressure involved in this decision. The people who made the decision themselves have said it's to do with improving the brand. The fact of the matter is that pretty girls in sports don't really attract women or families and in many cases can put them off. And in a society where you have HD porn at the click of a button are these pretty girls even that much of a draw to men?

I dont play video games but it reeks of the same type of moral panic we saw from evangelicals in the 1990's

Put it this way. Look at this video from 1995, see what Marilyn Manson has to say about Suicide and Rape. Now you would never ever have someone say something like this, as it would be too offensive. The youth of today would probably have some type of nervous breakdown if someone spoke the way he did. Back then the youth had an edge, some real emotions. Now everything is sanitised to the hilt and the twitter mob comes after anyone and everyone.

We have some more freedoms now, especially for gays and the like but we have also lost out on many things especially on the way we express ourselves. It is no wonder people are so depressed.
