Sure it depends what kind of stuff you're carrying, if it all fits in the back of a jeep i'd go for that. You could always get a roof rack or trailer for bigger stuff.
Cant see the point of pickups with everything getting soaked in this lovely climate of ours.
Any of those above for less than three grand are going to be rough, would a van do you?

At <3000 Euro you're looking at 99 Troopers and Discovery's. A 3000 euro Defender will be grim...

You'd pick up something like a Santa fe for a little over 3. Can only tow 2.2 though

Anything that isn't falling apart! A clean Terracan will beat a Landcruiser that is worn out.

At less than 3k your not going to be getting a choice really. Your going to have to accept something that will do your job and hopefully is in reasonable condition.

For towing. Driving on rough lanes with ground clearance not to sump itself and 4x4 for not getting stuck. Currently carry fair amount not if tools in estate car. Wondering is pickuo with open or closed back better for carrying stuff about. I believe most leak which isn't Ideal for keeping tools in

If your carrying tools what would you consider a pickup??
A jeep would be far super to protect tools from the elements and keep them out of sight from light fingered individuals

Good machine once you buy one over 150k miles. Because at that stage all the big issues are fixed

Best thing to do is use your €3,000 and borrow a bit to get a deposit and pcp a new Jeep.
We have a new Renault Kadjar since July last year. Fine Jeep, oceans of power and back seats.

Or you could hold on three years and pick up one for handy money

Hardly a Jeep though. He may as well just buy a mondeo.

You could get a 2007 / 2008 or so Sante Fe commercial jeep for that budget (3k). 4wd, 2 litre engine, plenty of space in the back for tools etc. Not great for towing heavy loads though.

You could , and then get yourself into a heap of xxxxxxx! There fulltime trouble at that age and even newer! Decide on how much hassle you can live with

Is it possible to lease commercial vehicles, vans or 4x4's, as a sole trader?? Leases for companies cover insurance and maintenance Afaik? An old jeep you could be paying 3 or 4k to buy, and spending 1.5k again keeping it on the road between test, tax and insurance for however many years it lasts

They don’t cover insurance. Had one a good few years back for one of the lads. A berlingo and it stood me 85 or 6 euro per week if I can remember right. No servicing, no Tyres and if something breaks they fix it. But god help you if have a crash or even a small tip.

Would insurance not cover costs of any tip?

Are you suggesting that by done magic beans it is cheaper to drive a 30k vehicle than a 30k one? It isn’t, ever.

I bought a 6k landcruiser 3 yrs ago. It does cost 1.5k pa to keep taxed insured and serviced, but close to zero depreciation, no lease payments, what’s not to like. Insurance is the biggest bill!

Was only wondering was it an option plenty lads have done what you did plenty more have paid the 6k only for the yoke they bought calve not long after. Always a trade between depreciation and repairs or in the case of leasing cost of running vs owning. Never leased anything. A lot of lads have no problem spending 40k on a tractor that won't do 500 hrs a year
