Is Ripple Tech busy behind the scenes?

I have been living and working in Australia since 2011. In that time I have always sent money home regularly (via currency fair) to look after financial commitments back home. I have noticed in the last few weeks that the interbank speed of transfer (international) has improved dramatically. When I send money ($AUD) to currency fair (based in Sydney account) from my ANZ in Australia, this usually takes 8-12 hours. This hasn't changed. But once the transaction is complete within currencyfair and I transfer the € back to BOI in Ireland, the transaction seems to be super fast, as in within a couple of hours. Historically this could take up to 2 days and longer.
Does anyone know what has happened lately that has seen this improvement in international transfers? I remember reading a few weeks back that the technology behind Ripple was concerned with faster transfer times globally but I wonder if this is somehow connected?
