Have or should i say have a 132 Mazda 6, perfect in every way, bar that head gasket blew with 126,000 miles on the clock. Full Mazda dealer service history at a major mazda garage. And now i am told 'well, thats sounds about right, as the engine is has only warranty for 60,000 miles'...... Does that seem justifiable, for a modern diesel engine? Ontop of this, this engine is currently in the CX5 which is meant to tow now and then....

    Any thoughts would be appreciated...

I have been told the car is now scrappage....What? The car is pristine, but worth nothing???

Surely you can get the engine re conditoned? A big bill maybe but that car is surely not scrap??

That was what i though and will probably do. But 'scrappage' was teh term used by the main mazda dealer!

considering the tyres cost €1200 themselves...and everything else in the car is perfect, leather interior, heated seats, reversing camera etc.

But i just though that the lack of good will from teh mazda dealer and main mazda is a disgrace.

The car has been serviced with a main mazda garage from new. Full service history.

Had an issue with heaters before christmas. In December they changed pollen filters and topped up coolant and sent me on the way. Then when i returned it to them on December 4th they tell me that the head is gone, and that it would have been difficult to notice when it was in previously!! Just dont understand. They are the 'professionals'

That losing coolant would almost certainly have been related to your issue.

Mazda diesels have a long history of going pop without any faulty parts. If you don't drive so that the DPF regenerates, it dumps fuel in the oil, and if you don't change the oil quick enough, bang. It's a design flaw, but good luck getting Mazda to admit it.

Google mazda diesel oil dpf and you#ll see lots of results.

Wish i had read more about this before i bought it. There obviously is a fault in the design with so many engines in the mazda 6 and cx5 having the same issue.

Not knowing too much about cars, i would have thought the Main mazda dealer would have advised me to keep an eye on the coolant incase there was a possible serious issue. But no. They just took the money for the works done and sent me on the way!!

    Quotes from there letter..

''Your car came in on the 01/12/17 for an issue regarding the heating system in your car. On first examination we found the coolant level was low and the pollen filter blocked up and dirty, this was restricting air flow into the cabin. We carried out checks and found no sign of a coolant leak. We topped up the coolant and cleaned out the pollen filter. Heating was working after this repair was carried out. There was also no sign of back pressure in the coolant system, on this date there would have been no concern for head gasket but may have been at an early stage which would have been undetectable.

On the 04/01/17 the car came back into us with the same complaint, no sign of external leaks were found, topped up with coolant and carried out pressure test, no leaks externally. We noticed too much pressure building up in coolant bottle. Unfortunately this is a an issue which takes time to manifest into a diagnosable problem.''

and then they had the cheek to write

''Was the coolant level checked between the 01/12/17 and the 04/01/18? If so did it need to be topped up and how often did it get topped up?''

Eh...the time period is one month, car not driven much over this period as heaters wouldnt work and then returned to them in new year!

A guess they think they can just fob you off...

Putting it to my solicitior to see how to progress...

OP I'm sorry to hear about the problems you're having with your Mazda.

I have had the same engine in the 6 and put up 150K KM in a little over 2 years and it never missed a heart beat. I serviced the car on the button every 13,000 KM. I drove at excessive speeds for long duration and also had been known to pull a slightly overweight trailer on more than one occasion. The only problem I ever had was with the brake disks warpping (Twice).

Some of you may have seen in another thread that I loved the driving experience of this engine so much that I stayed with Mazda for for a recent change - Moved from 6 to CX 5.

Surely you can do an engine swoop from a salvage vehicle? I understand it will be labor intense but you'll have a good engine...

considering the tyres cost €1200 themselves...and everything else in the car is perfect, leather interior, heated seats, reversing camera etc.

You may have paid €1200 for the tyres (most likely from the dealer) but most other people would have been able to source them from a tyre dealer for half that price. I'm assuming they're 18 or 19" tyres which shouldn't cost anymore than €160 a tyre and that would be for an above average brand name tyre.

Yeah, 1200 euro for tyres seems ridiculous for a Mazda 6.

    Yep

    19" Bridgestones.

But that is why i am so annoyed with the garage. The car was put in, and bills were never questioned. As the assumption was that the professionals were looking after the car and thus the car would last a considerable amount of time.

Just to show, all this talk about using main dealers to look after your car, because they have the 'correct' equipment and parts to service your vehicle means nothing once a problem occurs.

But they would stress that if you didnt use the main dealer garage then if anything went wrong it would not be their fault!
