Can I stay in friend's council house

Hi. I'm 23, out of fostercare and currently don't have a place to live. My friend is letting me stay at his place, which is a council house. He's okay with me staying here til I find somewhere, but we don't know what the rules are.

Is a friend legally allowed stay at someone's council house? Are there any steps that must be taken?

The job seekers know I'm living here as I've set my address as this house and have received post from them about Seetec etc

Your friend should read his tenancy agreement

Best advice is tell your friend to go to the council explain your situation to them. They may raise his rent as there is a second person now living in the dwelling.
