I would have had occasion to visit and post here in the past when I was driving a 96 jaguar XJ6 4.0 Sovereign. She was a lovely car to drive but between the fact that she was beginning to show her age, developing some rust issues that would have needed serious attention if I intended to keep it and a full respray was becoming something I was considering, I thought about maybe making a change.

The fact that the annual tax bill was €2,000.00 didn't help either.

So, long story short, I traded up somewhat and staying with Jaguar, I got a very nice 09 3.0D XF. It was one of the very few cars about that caught my eye sufficiently enough to drag me away from my "baby".

It's my first ever diesel and I'm very pleasantly surprised by the fuel consumption, or lack of it! I'm averaging 41 mpg and could probably improve on that if I wanted to. And at 10 cent per litre cheaper it's a win win. Road tax is also only €750 per annum, based on CO2 and is actually cheaper than some of the smaller engined diesel XF's for that reason.

It came with a full Jaguar service history and only 76,000 miles. It's a very different driving experience to the older XJ6. Much more spirited and progressive and it hugs the road like it's on rails. Especially nice down here in Kerry on our twisting winding mountain roads.

    So far, so good.
