Hi, I did not give my personal details - name or pps number to irish water when registering my property for water charges and paid my irishwater bills with cash in the post office. I still do not wish to give my personal info to irish water but want to have the money I paid refunded to me same as all other customers. How do I go about this?

    Hi Siobhan

The reason Irish water do not have that info is because I had no trust in their ability to protect it, or in their assurances that they wouldn't share it with carefully chosen partners etc.

However I don't mind providing the information if Irish water will commit to deleting the info once the cheque has been issued; after all the information is only needed to issue the chq, and once that is done it will no longer be required, and data can only be used for the purpose for which it was collected?

That is your data protection policy, however Irish water were happy to supply water with the information I originally gave them, they should need no more to continue that service, and I will be needing water supplied for a long time to come.
The data needed to perform a refund is a different issue, if you need to collect extra data to perform that task I'm willing to supply it, but once that task is completed you have no further need to retain or process that information and it should not be linked or stored in association with my household Irish water account in any way.

    Regards

Day 38, still no further along than I was when I posted on here waaaaay back in January, IW Mairead, Siobhan, Aaron and Agata haven't had the manners to let me know what has been happening / or not happening for weeks now.

Maybe just give them your details and get the cheque. They've told you their policy, if your so scared of a water company having your details than the price is not getting your refund. That sounds harsh but your posts do come across as being pedantic for the sake of it and the best reply your going to get is we'll be careful we promise.

You can be fairly sure that if youve ever provided details to any company ranging from a clubcard to an airline or bank that your details are well and truly floating about uncontrolled anyway.

Indeed using this very site has already seen your data breached

No company I have ever given my details to have ever had a breach of data - well none reported anyway. I don't give any company details unless absolutely necessary, electric & gas have same details as IW, just the address they supply and send bills to.

Don't know how you can say that using this site has 'seen my data breached', Boards don't know my name, address, phone number, DOB, anything except an email..

On the Irish water, I paid my bills and am entitled to a refund; I have no problem giving them this info to facilitate the refund; what I do have a problem with is them saying that they will need to retain that data, for no good reason - as they currently supply water without having that info.

On this forum, talk to Irish water, It has been a complete waste of time, I've been told that they are looking into this and will contact me when they get more info.. that was more than a month ago and no contact since; p*ss poor customer service I'm sure you'll agree.

Hi, I have spoken to data protection regulator about this issue and they have requested that I write to you and forward your written response; I wrote to an address given to me by your telephone support people - a P.O box - about 2 months ago, outlining my position but have received no reply; I'd appreciate if you could arrange for a written response to be posted to my address so I may forward to the Data commissioner as they requested.

    Cheers

So... you gave them your address in the end anyway? Could have saved yourself 6 months

Don't be silly Ghosty, I've no issue with giving them my address, sure that's were they deliver the water and where they delivered the bills for the water I used, perhaps you need to re-read the post and think very hard to try to figure out what the issue is.

    Hi Amy

In my letter I did not give my name or phone number, can you tell me how that info will help you find it?

Also you really don't need to find my letter, all you have to do is outline your response given to me here, put it on paper and send it to my address.

    Regards

Op, you're coming across as a being vexatious with this whole being awkward for the sake of it.

If you genuinely want the refund, will you just give your details so they can send you the cheque and stop being a twat about it. You're not being smart you're just making yourself look like an idiot.

I'm debating between unsubscribing from this thread or just giving the OP the money myself (made out to cash, delivered under a bridge whilst walking away backwards so that his identity won't be revealed)

Some people like an argument just for the sake of it and to be fair to the OP Irish Water isn't a bad choice for him to vent at but I fear he's fighting a loosing battle and looking like an awful silly billy in the progress.

Why is my name required to send me a letter? IW didn't need it to send out bills? ' The Householder' sufficed..

I'd also like to thank everyone else for their constructive contributions to this thread while I'm at it

Ah Ghostys back, have you figured it out yet, or do you need someone to explain it to you?

    Think you need some explaining

You want a cheque, give them your info

You want to be awkward for the sake of it? Grand, I’ll still be getting a laugh out of this thread in 2019

Best of luck cashing a cheque made out to “the householder”
