Just wondering has anyone come across an animal where there hoof has split.. Had a cow that must of slipped on the slats and ripped one claw to the side. She's hobbling but very sore looking. Any ideas on what to do ?

You will need to contact your Vet in the morning. She will definitely need pain relief and whatever course of action your Vet recommends.

Had the hoofcare man out Saturday but he said he wouldn't touch it. Said the vet would probably cut it clean off. Just kinda wanted to know if anyone had an experience whether the cow will come good after it or will she be going to the factory ?

Have seen them before when the hoof was cut off and they worked out fine.

I had a weanling here before that was lame like that. Vet cut the hoof right off. He bandaged it all up then. It worked out fine but I had to declare him when I was selling and that knocked about 250e off his value. I didn't have the means to finish him. One hoof looked like a disaster on slats.

Wont b safe to put her back in calf, the extra weight of pregnancy would cause her big problems, keep her off slats, fatten and factory.

Vet will likely take the hoof off, she won't be able for slats so put out or on straw and fatten before next winter

Vet to cut off. She will be left with a stump. A routine trim of the other hoof a couple of times per year by hoofcare man to minimize the chances of her getting lame on the good hoof.

Hoof took off anyway.. All bandaged up so hopefully she'll be the better of it.
