Mine does around mid-thirties mpg in town and urban driving and up to 50mpg on the motorways but I drive with a light foot and cruise around 110 km/h. It's the S tronic. Not sure if the manual is any better.

I did a week's driving in Donegal last year and averaged 48 mpg over the week, driving slowly and carefully all the way.

Well, I do drive very gently, with economy in mind. I'd guess a heavy right foot might bring the figures back to the low 30's but in fairness the 1.4 is pretty good on mileage. I had the A3 Saloon 1.4 TFSI (manual) before getting the A4 and that was a pretty economical petrol car too.

Economy apart, the 1.4 engine is very quiet and refined in the A4. A neighbour I carried recently, said it sounded almost like an electric car.
