Snow showers likely in the northwest Tuesday night onward

And many other places in the country by early Wednesday morning.

    BRAEU_48.gif

Further sleet and snow showers through Wednesday (rain and hail in the southwest and immediate Atlantic coasts). There is the possibility of more prolonged showers or more prolonged snowfall effecting the east and north during Wednesday evening. Mostly rain in the west due to a strengthening Atlantic wind raising temperatures here. This is associated with a more organised band of precipitation from the northwest.

2-5 cm through Tuesday night (particularly toward morning) seems probable in the northwest.

Keep up to date, will have more later today.

Looks a very messy affair with NW'ly winds warming up (relatively speaking) by Wednesday morning:

Not really. Forecast is pretty much the same now word for word as in the OP. Northwest likely to see the most snow showers but wouldn't
be surprised to see a dusting almost anywhere by daybreak on Wednesday...

Also need to keep an eye on this feature later Wednesday moving down through the country from the north. Risk of snow on it's eastern flank in particular.

To follow up here the snow potential tonight in the northwest is from after 1 am. Temperatures here by the end of the night will generally be below freezing away from immediate coasts. This snow potential slowly drifting southward overnight and will effect many other places by daybreak.

On Wednesday temperatures will range 1 - 4c. Snow showers highly likely in the north and border counties through the afternoon. Southwestern counties, particularly with height, could also see some sleet and snowfall.

In the late afternoon/evening a more organised band of rain, sleet and snow moving south. The north and east most favored for snowfall from this.

It will clear early tomorrow night - wintry showers for north facing coasts will follow. Mostly dry elsewhere. Cold, ice possible in eastern counties with frost elsewhere. -1 - +1c generally, coldest in the east.

Met Éireann only mention possibility of hill snow in the west and north. There's no real depth of cold airmass, so another sloppy mess at low levels.

I'm particularly interested in the following:

In the late afternoon/evening a more organised band of rain, sleet and snow moving south. The north and east most favored for snowfall from this.

    .

Any chance that you could elaborate with more detail on this?

Theres just a constant NW flow when it gets cold nowadays. Too messy for proper snow.

Only time we seem to get a proper set up for snow is the June Bank Holiday weekend and then its 8c so thats also too warm.

At least it was on 2 previous occasions

Prob 30% of Snow Showers in Knock Airport from 3am-10am in the latest TAF.

No confidence in this one myself, and im normally optimistic. Limited to only higher ground and well favoured locations.

Uppers even near the eastern seaboard of Canada on the gfs are circa -36 at 850 level if they’re to be believed
The inevitable storms could pull down some of that not modified enough to rule out proper 1 day northwesterly snow showers at some point soon as opposed to tonight and tomorrow’s weak affair

Thread needs a status yellow, anyone?

Snowing nicely in Kinnegad. Really nice watching it fall, with some big flakes fluttering down in slack winds.

Sticking to cars and to the grass a bit but doesn't look like it will stick to paved surfaces.

It's the bally ballyness of it that makes it all seem so bally bally.
