Sorry, heading is incorrect. It was no tax displayed.
Hi, I received a fine in the post today stating that I have been issued with a fine for failing to display tax on a car on Jan 12.
Thing is the car in question was not being used, it was given to my niece for her 18th in Oct and hasn't left the yard since as she is getting her licence sorted and the battery is flat so won't even start.
The car was in my wife's name but never transferred over.
How do I fight this? How can I prove it wasn't the car in question?

who owns the yard as if its your property and not out on the road you might be safe.
but if you got a ticket access to photos might be needed to prove guilt or innocence

Was your niece driving it somewhere else, if you 100% can't prove this no point in starting any action over it. Not transferring ownership over is idiotic.

i would ask for a photo because they can be wrong,if its showing your car pay the fine.

No, she hasn't been using it, 100% certain.
Reg wasn't changed as we didn't remember. Not an issue as car was not being used till she got her license.

It couldn't be our car as it has been in the same spot over 30 miles away since October.
    100% certain of this.

Why wouldn't you transfer from day 1, no benefit in not?

Let’s just forget about transfer of ownership for a minute.

If the OP is correct here that the car wasn’t used then there’s something more serious going on here. Cloned reg possibly?

The traffic warden will have a picture of the car for court. Ask to see it. Could be mistake on reg no. The photo will sort it out.

Getting the registration number of an offending vehicle wrong does happen.

My mother's car was never west of Rathmines but she got a parking ticket for Galway ! When challenged to check their evidence they coughed up an admission of error and an apology.

Has the vehicle been registered as 'off the road' for tax purposes?
