Importing vehicle from UK - what's my annual motor tax?

I'm looking to bring my 2002 Audi TT back home from the UK.

Is the annual tax on a vehicle based on when the car was originally registered (2002) or when it is registered in Ireland? Due to CO2 emissions, if it's based on this tax system over the old engine size regs, I would be charged 3 times as much annually.

All pre 2008 cars are taxed based on engine size, tt is 1.8 tax band.
It's the year of the car they go by, not when it was imported.
