Understanding ryanair charges for change of flight?

    Hi there,
Can anyone explain the charges for a flight change with ryanair? We (2 adults and 2 children) have to fly back early from Malta as the wife has to work.

So changing the return flight only, when I go through the process it clearly states the difference in flights, 30.61.

Then when I get to checkout, for the 4 changes it's 422! I understand the 120 charge ( 4 times 30 euros admin charge). We did not change any seat, but they've added on 7 euros for that (thanks).

My query though is on the other 295.20 difference?... Where did that come from? 4 times 30.61 I would have expected, as we only changed the return flight. Anyone any ideas?

the ryanair website is a massive improvement over before, but it does get a little confused from time to time.
Best idea is to clear cookies and then try again and see if there was a glitch in the calculations.

As for the difference not adding up, have you the actual prices you paid before from the original booking? Is it a mistake that they are charging you €74 per person extra, or is it just a website mistake that they midlead you that its only €30.61 at that stage.

A €74 rise in price isnt all that much to bring a flight closer to a bank holiday weekend, especially when its a 2500 km distance from Malta to Ireland, and someone needs to pay for the fuel, which in Ryanairs case is often the passengers who book (or change) when the plane starts to get full.

You pay a change fee, plus any difference in the price of the flights, also things like pre booked seats do not carry over, or priority boarding, so these need to be booked and paid for again

Yes, my issues isn't with the 30.61, I understand I should pay the difference in flight prices. It's that they are changing me 295 for the difference in flights?? 4 times 30.61 should be around 122. :(

I dont mind paying a charge etc, but I do think it's 422 is a bit excessive for a change of date. Either way, that's not my issue. They are stating the difference is 30.61 (and it is), so why charge me 74 extra per flight??

again, clear your cookies and log out and login in again, and then check again. The website can get a little confused if you start chopping and changing things, clicking on the back button and the likes.

For example, a few weeks back I was getting charged for kids seats which were supposed to be free and even getting re-charged for a seat I had already paid for.

In the end I started from fresh again (after giving the helpline grief, and to their credit they were back to me in barely an hour) and all was then spot on.

is it possible that there are not 4 seats left at that price and only some are at the 116?

I dont think so... the first step in the process is to identify whose seats are being changed, so they do know from the start we are changing all 4. Also, the new price is available on the site today so that is not the case... i.e. the 30.61 difference is still there today.

The only other thing I can think of is that maybe they are charging me for a price difference on the flight I am not changing, if that has also changed in price.

Sounds like that's it. I've dummy-booked that route/those dates as a single adult fare and it's coming up at 192.76 x4 = 771.04. They're quoting me 119 for the return rather than the 116 they've offered you, which would bring it down to 759.04 for four seats, not including any rebate for fares already paid.
