anyone know how they calculate hap?
we are married with 2 kids, renting privately for 9 years. we thought for years things would get better and we may be able to save and buy a house, but things are getting worse. income coming down and rent and bills increasing so we are applying for social housing. we both work but our joint income is under the max limit for social housing, so does this mean we automatically are eligible for some part of HAP as well? our income is 750 a week, but our rent, loans and bills leave us with nothing left majority of weeks and often going into arrears. no disposable income whatsoever.

HAP is for people with a long term housing need who find it difficult to pay their housing costs from available income.

The limits will depend on where you live and your income. Ask at the housing department of your county to get the full details.

If you are approved for social housing then you can apply for HAP but rent limits for your area and your circumstances will apply.
In the county in which I live, the letter informing you that you are approved for social housing is accompanied by a HAP application form and explanatory notes.
