Dealer's Mileage Rounding Down

Seen a car on Donedeal with an independent dealer selling mostly Audi cars. There was one that ticked a lot of boxes so I emailed and asked specifics about service history and assuming it was a UK export, I asked for the UK reg. He sent the reg no problem. I threw the reg into Google and I find a cache of the ad (with the UK seller, autovillage.co.uk) but with 3,000 km more.

What's that about? Why would a dealer do something that would just shatter any trust you might have had from the start?! I'm assuming if I did take a look and point it out, he'd just say, yeah it's out a bit! I won't be bothering to look because of this. Pity; it looks a nice motor.

Is the mileage on the ad a very round number, like say 140,000?

The UK ad should have the mileage on it. It’s not an ad with say 140,000 miles and now the car has 140,000km?

Original mileage (on the UK ad) 44,826 miles. Rounded down to 43,000 miles on the Irish ad.

Meh, I wouldn’t rule the car out because of that. You can check the UK MOT history for free with the reg number too by the way. How recent is the UK ad?

If your that interested in the car why would the mileage on the ad being out a tiny bit put you off? It's not like the dealer has clocked the car back to that mileage

Don't know how recent the UK ad is. No MOT info available unfortunately. Did a check on the reg but there's no record of change in ownership/registered keepers.

Fair points - if he was into clocking (don't believe he is), he wouldn't be clocking by less than 2k miles. Probably worth a look. Cheers.

43k miles is just under 70k km whereas the exact mileage is just over.

So he probably put 43k on it to maximise the ad views for people filtering their searches by mileage.

Not a big crime in the overall scheme of things. I’ve done similar myself tbh.

There's a garage in Dublin that I keep an eye on. Practically 90% of their cars have the incorrect mileage stated in the ad but when you look at the pictures they always have a picture of the odometer with the correct mileage. It's to catch the filter on search engines. If the car has say 103K on the odometer, the ad will always say 98K or 99K. Nothing to worry about if it checks out OK.
