I may have to move in the future. How do people find places to rent with pets when most ads says no pets?

You’ll just need to enquire as some landlords will accept certain types of pets if offered a separate deposit outside of the normal deposit.

My partner and the landlord wrote a clause covering the dog, basically saying anything she damages we pay for etc, so it was bound by the original contract. You might get a landlord willing to do that.

We have had to move a few times and we have a little bichon. We normally say nothing until we go to the viewing and meet the landlord/agency. Then when we decide we like the place we throw it into conversation, explaining how we’ve had him for years (he’s 8) and that he’s small, well trained etc and weve been v lucky that each time the landlord has not wanted to separate us from the dog and was happy to let us rent -no extra fee needed.

I have heard of the whole offering an extra deposit too for the dog which works.

In the current market, its going to be very hard to find a landlord that will allow pets. Given there are so many people looking for rental accommodation, why would a landlord rent to a tenant with a pet over one that doesn't? Its frustrating I know but its the reality.

It all depends what kind of pet you have. If its a hamster, I doubt you would have much problem. If its a dog however, slightly more difficult.

As others have said, I would always offer an extra deposit for the dog but you will struggle to find a place. If you can, always try to ask the landlord directly rather than the estate agent. When I was moving into my place, the letting agent told me absolutely no dogs. I asked the landlord myself and he had no problems and I know have two in the house with me :)

I have done the extra deposit thing in the past. It also helps if your dog is a small, non-shedding breed!

Have two dogs and when I fad to move somewhere else I'm always put ads on the ad boards in a supermarket looking for older houses pets allowed
Had always succes with it but only thing was houses are not up to standard
House is cheaper as normal and pets cant do any harm in the house
