    Hi,
Looking at a 2013 Volvo v60 in UK. In vehicle check it comes back with a change of plates in September 2017.
    It's small back street garage.
Is this alarm bells straight away or is there any genuine reason for a change in plates?
    Thanks

As far as I know in the uk you can buy plates and if you sell your car you can bring the plates with you to the next car. Depending on the plates but they can be huge money so no I'd not worry about that.
If it has a service historyring the garage to make sure it was serviced there, this will verify mileage also. Many have stamped books but they mean nothing

Do you mean that the plates were changed in 2011 because you can’t put 2011 plates on a 2006 car. You can put 2006 plates on a 2011 (ie make it look older) but not vice versa.

NI is different to GB and is not year specific in the same way.

95% or more of U.K. cars are GB not NI. Technically NI plates are not age specific - you get the next number in sequence which can be but is not a statement of age. By contrast a GB car cannot carry a reg issued later than the car’s first registration (cherished or otherwise). Up until 2014, cars moved from GB to NI and vice versa were reregistered and this might be why yours got a newer looking plate. It’s very much an outlier in terms of experience of buying U.K. cars.

Since 2014, regs don’t need to be changed and the new Boris buses are reg’d in NI before being moved to London so they get “LT” reg plates.
