Hey lads just wondering is anyone getting any good shooting on the lakes this year ? We have been out a few times during this season on the boat and it’s been poor enough. We went to Derravaragh yesterday and shot 3 black and White’s seen a few duck but no flights or anything. We are going next Saturday again and I would like to try somewhere that’s shooting better. Any recommendations would be great

In wet winters like this ducks tend to be spread out more cos there are alot more feeding opportunities in flooded fields and the like - its a pattern I've noticed over the years doing a bit of shooting in Turlough country down West . Also its been a pretty mild winter so far over large parts of Europe so fewer birds bother coming as far as us for the winter

Too much water on the land. You'd never know where you'll find one. Was out for a walk on Saturday and got a mallard in a flooded corner of a meadow. Near shat me self when it got up.

Don't waste your time on the lakes , the winter duck don't come on in any numbers like before. There are many theories as to why this is. Mallard are hard got on lakes in winter so you dhould a pool they feed or roost on . So find a pool, watch it and don't be too greedy. Also don't tell the people about it and you'll get some shooting. Not being smart but if fellas have a decent spot they don't broadcast it.
