Here is my situation, 3 months ago my son moved out of my home to live with his mother (long story) I live in a Dublin City Council house so my rent is based on what income is coming into my home, I’m currently unemployed and have joint custody of my 9-year-old son, I get roughly €245pw.
My son who moved out now lives with his Mother and as yet has not given me proof of his new address so I can take him off my DCC rent, I have asked over and over again for this but still nothing, this week a friend of a friend has told me that my ex will not allow our son to put his name down on her place as she gets some sort of rent allowance, or HAP payment and this is where I have a huge problem, she puts his name down on her floor, she gets less rent allowance or whatever she claims.
My own rent should be just under €40 a week but I am still been assessed as having him living with me until I can prove otherwise so my actual rent is just over €100pw , my son who now lives with his mother is self-employed and earning over €600 a week so getting his name changed over to his mother’s address for me is a matter of urgency as DCC still believe he lives here with me and my rent is going up at a rate of nearly €70 a week for him until I can prove he is gone, I have been in contact with MABS and the citizens advice and they have both told me it’s a family matter and not a matter for them as such.
She is obviously committing a fraud as I know she works full time 42 hours per week and earns €15PH, she lives with 3 of our 4 kids now and each of the 3 oldest work, 1 is earning €700pw, another €600pw and the other €300pw as an apprentice, so there is a lot of money going into her home and I’ve looked it up and she wouldn’t be entitled to any rent supplement payment, but she won’t allow my son who just moved out to put him name on her address as it’ll interfere with her defrauding the state but that leaves me in a horrible situation, my son wants to give me these details but is being basically threatened by his mother and has him in a horrible situation too, and I honestly do feel sorry for him.
But I need to look after me and my home and keep my home so I can continue to jointly rear my 9-year-old and have somewhere to live, I have been to see DCC who sympathise but cannot do anything about taking him off my rent until proof is received, I know this sounds very blunt but I do not care about her or what happens to her over this as that’s her problem not mine, but what on earth can I do, I don’t want to put pressure on my son as he is getting it from his mother and doing what she says, I am terrified of losing my home and my rent arrears are climbing at €70 a week for the last 12 weeks.
I have said it to her and she sees it as a joke, she would like nothing more than to see me kicked out onto the street so there is no talking to her.
Could someone PLEASE tell me what can I do?

My opinion on this is €1,600+ a week coming into a house and people are claiming rent allowance - I’d be making a phone call to the council and have the allowances stopped.

My personal opinion is Why The F am I breaking my balls to cover mortgage, bills etc when some people get handouts like this.

Report her anonymously for the DSP on suspicion of social welfare fraud.

Or ask your son (who is earning €600 p/w) to pay his €70 share as he is still legally registered at your address. I assume he’s old enough to sort his own affairs?
