Hi folks. If just been to visit a friends new house. He's just had SKY installed but unfortunately his tv is centre of the room up on the wall. The twin co ax is coming in thru the front wall of the house, ran along the ground to the sky box on the floor. Not an ideal situation as the cables are surface run and he's just finished decorating the room. He should have put provision in for this but he didn't. So I was talking to him about possible solutions.

1 that I though of was moving the box to the corner where the cable comes in. Getting a pair of HDMI to cat5 baluns. Using a pair of home plugs to send the signal from the socket beside the sky box to the socket at the rear of the tv

So set up will be like this...

    Sky box hdmi > cat5/rj45

    Cat5/rj45 > homeplug sender

    Homeplug receiver > cat5/rj45

    Cat5/rj45 > tv hdmi

    Any advice is appreciated

    Cheers

You'll need a HDMI extender to convert the HDMI/Cat5 signal. Not sure if multiple will work on a network though or if it will work through the home plugs

I can confirm it won't work over home plugs unfortunately. Over cat 5 cable it's perfect.

Yeah I did a bit of further reading and even in the back of my mind I had a feeling it wouldn't work.

Yea in theory i thought it may work but in practice no luck. Just not getting any signal thru. I know eir tv works over homeplugs but hdmi must use a different protocal

You are looking for a device that sends hdmi over tcp/ip. I think those baluns use something else.

Probably less hassle and cost to pay to get someone back to lay the cable neatly

Yes I can confirm it is possible to use over home plugs but it must be a HDMI to IP converter and not one that just says HDMI to Cat5.

It's probably easier to keep the cables neat than it will be to hide the homeplugs, converters and their plugs.

I have a wall mounted tv and I wanted to put its associated box in another room. After some searching I found this:
Eazy2hD HDMI Extender Over Single 50m/164ft Cat5e/6 Cables with IR Remote Control HDCP Compliant up to 1080p Resolution
    by Eazy2hD
    Link: http://amzn.eu/i7rNtEU
Ran in a Cat5 cable and hooked this up. Really happy with it.
