The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has said it is reviewing issues relating to social media and consumer protection at a European level.

It comes after a week when the Irish influencer community came under pressure from social media users to become more transparent.

It's not really anything concrete yet but interesting to note that the ASAI say that now about 5% of their annual complaints refer to social influencers compared to 0% two years ago. The CCPC have never received any complaints about influencers - though from the sounds of the article they are more than open to receiving them. They cannot perform an investigation without having received a number of complaints from consumers plus some other criteria but have publicly said here that they are 'reviewing' influencers. The more regulated these things are, I think the better and fairer it will be for those who do things transparently and within the guidelines that any advertiser has to adhere to already.
