Been googling this but can't find a definite answer. Does anyone here know if the DPF is checked at the NCT? Would you be likely to fail for having it removed?

    It's visually checked .

    Yes, visual only...

Emission control system leaking, incomplete or incorrectly assembled

So you can gut the DPF and map it out but as long as the empty piping is put back in place you're grand?

Yes, it's only a soot filter and will have no bearing on the opacity test (smoke level)

My car went through the test last week with a hollow DPF
    No issues at all 👍

My car and my van get through every year with a gutted one. It looks like it's there, but it's hollowed out, and mapped out

And the poor NCT lads having to test cars like that in those confined conditions, they must have no union.

The same lads who made money removing and mapping out DPFs are going to make the same money over again putting them back in and mapping again when it becomes a requirement for the NCT, what a gig :D
