Can you work as a contractor for a company that just made you redundant

    Hello,
quick question, I will be redundant at the end of this month after 14 years as permanent employee. I have applied for a job through an agency and they just told me that this is a contract role for 6 months with my current company (similar role but not the same location). the agency didn't know what to think of this situation so they will ask the hiring manager. I think that you have to wait one year before you can work for a company that made you redundant but in this case it's a contractor role so might be different. What are your thoughts on that? Thanks

I was in a similar position but the terms of redundancy forbid me from working there for a period of 2 years from the date I left.

Nothing in law to prevent you doing this. However, Revenue may take a look at the redundancy and take a view as to whether it was valid in terms of getting termination tax relief. Bit of a grey area but quite common to come back as contractor in a manner that seemingly satisfies Revenue.
