Eir fibre question

Apologises if this specific question has been asked & answered elsewhere already.

So yesterday a guy from Eir called to say that Fibre broadband was now available in our area. I looked at the fibre rollout map and yes, looks like it is. However, we have an old phone line in the house. He said they will basically use that to pull the new cable and do the install.

So.. my question is... given that we don't actually have the hardware in place for fibre broadband yet does that mean that our first contract has to be with Eir ? -not giving us the option to go with any of the other providers who piggyback on the Eir infrastructure ? or is it possible to get Eir to do the installation for a fee but get a provider contract with someone else ? Eir contracts seem to be 18/24 months.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Your first contract doesnt have to be with eir but the alternative providers charge a connection charge that eir dont.

Anyone here with a little green house symbol can provide ftth

The free installation with Eir is time limited. Not sure, if they're going to do that any longer. It's quite costly for providers to do these installations, when it's a new line.

Also, there is EU legislation, that says, they can't remove the old existing copper line.

However, they will use the existing ducting to push the fiber in alongside, if they can.

Either way, there are lots of options, depending on where you are in the country.
