Multi fuel boiler feeder

    Hi all,

    seeking some others experience.

I have a multi fuel furnace in the garage (back up by oil) and UFH - works grand BUT.. figured out that the labour involved in keeping it going on solid fuel is tough going (i am away a few days a week) - wifey manages BUT even though we only fire it up every other day for 6-8 hours we are in and out to it too often. perhaps every couple of hours to top it up. Trying not to use oil at all.

in lesser colder weather we only have to fire it up 2 times a week.

house is well insulated so no issues there BUT not really OK with the in/out nature of when we do fire it up (I know - should have factored that in the first place !!!)

just wondering if anyone has these multi fuel furnace with a "feeder" ? - i would be grand if i could "load" it up once and leave it burn for several hours - ie one visit for one fire up a day.

just wondering if anyone has one and could offer insight or point me in the right direction with advise ?

though about air to water but the 8-10k cost is off putting - figured may a replacement boiler with a feeder may be viable.

    thanks in advance.

Don't really know much about your particular boiler but do you turn the dampers down once it is going or do you just leave them open. Shutting them down should slow the rate of burn.

Hi Op, I am in the same position as yourself. Now we just use the oil burner all the time and the solid fuel only get used a few times over the winter.
My external stove model is a Karpat and while it has a slot for a feeder-that is really only for pea type coal iirc.
Like other poster advised I damp it down and also reduce the set temperature from 60c to 50c to prolong the burn.
What I would like is a wireless add on that will send me the temp periodically or I can view it on my phone and not have to go out to check the stove as frequently as I do now.

I have thought about the A2W option as well and may do it in distant future if price drops to €5k or a grant is available to me.

    Best of luck.

    Mrblack.

    Hi mr black.
Have you any idea where parts can be sourced for the Karpat boiler? We had to get a new fan for ours and somebody in Kerry got a part for us that costs €30 in Poland and she charged us €130 for the same part. Now the Control Panel has packed in, it turns on but it is not controlling the temperature. We have the Karpat F boiler installed externally. Thanks for any help.

FeetofFlames, I only see your message now!
    Did you get that part?

I get spare parts from Econ Fuels Tralee.
Mairead was my contact there when I needed a replacement controller about 2 years ago.
