    Hi,

Rather than a typical package holiday, am looking to airbnb a villa or similar in Spain for a family of 5 (3 kids aged 5,6 and 8). Will rent a car.

Looking for a more authentic town and not a tourist trap. Good food is key. Wife is fluent in Spanish.

Would appreciate if any travellers have any tips places they came across and loved- a nice fishing village with fresh seafood maybe, or a hillside town with lovely views, that I can research availability.

As I said great food and not touristy is key!

We got married just outside the town/village of Gaucín. Lovely views is a glaring understatement - I can provide pics. About 90 minute drive from Malaga Airport. It's a small town, little meandering streets, not a huge selection of bars/restaurants but we didn't have any issues. Ronda is less than an hour away if you want something on a larger scale.

How about somewhere in the Cabo de gata, just outside Almeria

    Direct flights from Dublin

I can vouch for Gaucín. Beautiful. If you have a hire car the drive up there as amazing. Casares is good too if you want to be nearer to the sea. For the best local food, look for Ventas.

I lived in Casares for 4 years so would definitely recommend, though didn't have any kids. Lovely hillside town and only a short drive if you want to go to sea. Gaucin is a bit further. Cabo de Gata also beautiful. We went to San Jose in September and didn't hear any English for three days.
I like Tarifa, but maybe can be a bit unpredictable with the winds? Zahara de la Frontera/Conil de la Frontier might be worth a łook too.

Just back for a week split between Aristot and Navata in Catalonia; lovely and quiet and relaxing

I really like Central Spain and can recommend El Toboso and Campo de Criptana. The people are extraordinary friendly there and you will feel right at home. Even more so if you speak Spanish.

Both have a link to Don Quixote, by the way. El Toboso is where the lady Dulcinea lived and Campo de Criptana has the windmills he fought.

Conil de la Frontera is beautiful - highly recommended. If you're using public transport you need to get a bus from Seville - about 2 hours (but if you have a car it's a lot quicker). The beach is stunning and there are some great-value restaurants with fantastic food. The nearby hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontra is lovely too. Would return to both in a heartbeat.

I passed it last week on my way from Tarifa to Jerez de la Frontera. The whole region there is worth a visit.
