Audi A4 B7 1.9 tdi brb starting issue

The past 2 months my a4 has been giving trouble starting. The car turns over fine but shudders into life after maybe 4 or 5 seconds.

Originally it only happened after the car was allowed to cool down for an hour or so from being at full working temperature. Now the car is doing it when it is cold too. When the car is at full working temperature it starts fine.

I've tried the trick with the headlight switch and I've changed the coolant temperature sensor but no change, same symptoms persist.

I got a mechanic to run a diagnostic on it and all came though ok.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best thing to do under these circumstances would be to get some one to run a diagnostics scan on it. That will give a good indication as to what the problem is, otherwise you will be trying this or that and getting no where ( unless you are very lucky or have good mechanical skills )
    Good Luck with it.

Forgot to add that I already got someone to run a diagnostic on it and all was ok.

Oops.. yes I can see that now about the diagnostics...From the way you are describing it, I would be thinking along the line of heater plugs......turning over fine, but taking too long to start when cold, but starts easier when hot. Strange that it's not throwing a code though. I had a problem with mine ( also 1.9 Tdi ) intermittent "miss", that gradually got worse, and it never threw a code either. Eventually tracked it down to the injector wiring harness, now it's fine. Be interesting if you "A" check that the cables feeding the heater plugs are working, or "B" check out the plugs themselves are working. Easy to check the plugs, remove them, and using jump leads run current from the battery through them one by one. If they glow red, they are fine, if not...that's one possible cause. But the cables would be the first thing to check. Disconnect them and turn on the ignition, check if there is current flowing through them with a meter ( even a bulb on a length of cable will do) You might have to switch the ignition on and off a few time's to trigger the relay. ( two man job, one in the drivers seat, and one at the engine) Another thing you could try would be to switch the ignition on and off 3 or 4 times before turning the key to the start position.....if that works, its generally indicative of heater plug problem.
