Renault Fluence gearbox replacement cost?

Can someone tell me what the cost of replacing the gearbox would be? Main dealer has quoted €2600! Is that excessive or normal? Why don't they open the box and just replace the broken components at a much cheaper price? Any info appreciated.

Gearboxes are usually adjusted internally to allow for gear spacing and other tiny discrepancies.
The cheapest way to repair your gearbox is to buy a 2nd hand one with warranty and have it fitted, it shouldn't cost any more than a clutch replacement which you should think about at the same time as the replacement 'box.
