Hi all, my 11 year old has been moved up to the development group in her swimming club so this means one day starting at 5.30. Would you recommend anything to eat beforehand? It’s a 2 hour class so she’ll need some energy but I’m worried too much will make her sick. Would just a slice of toast be ok? Thanks!

My daughter does this swim few times a week.

Mostly she has toast or bagel and a good glass of juice, 20-30 minutes before the pool.

Afterwards she has milk/milk based smoothie straight away within 15 minutes, then a good breakfast when home.

She uses a homemade sport drink throughout the session, orange juice salt and water.

My 11 and 12 year olds have a 5am start 3 times per week. It can be a struggle getting them to eat at 4am!

He alternates between slices of melon or dry cereal. She likes toast and cornbeef sandwiches!!! Occasionally they will have a fresh homemade smoothie but this can be very heavy at that time of the day. They drink lots of water during the session.

Thank you both, much appreciated. I think we'll try toast or bagel / juice initially. Wish me luck!, it's hard enough getting her up for 7.30 swims at the weekend!!

My daughter will eat a slice of toast. I know one parent gives their child porridge.
When I did morning training back in the day I used to have fruit before training.
