I would really appreciate if anyone could explain how to solve this equation please,

As no factors from 4 divide evenly into 6, you use the quadratic formula (below) which can be found in your tables book:

Put A as 1 (because that's the number in front of x squared)
Put B as -6 (because that's the number in front of x)
Put C as 4 (because that's the third term)

Now fill the above figures into the formula and put it into your calculator.

NOTE: For the -b part of the formula, make sure you put -(-6), because the formula normally uses a minus but here you have a -6, so you put in two minus symbols - the other and the number in brackets.
