Are the non-paypal ads on Gumtree still just as much scams?

    This woman contacted me about my advert for a tablet with a dodgy looking Email as there were many numbers but that's not too bad.

    My alarm bells started ringing when she told me "hun broke my leg can't travel but you can come to Saggart". Obvious scam right then and there. Tried to outline that I was concerned about safety and we could meet in Dundrum but she went on about her leg without even acknowledging the concern for safety.

    Do these damn scammers have intelligence? Who in their right mind would believe that a helpless and flirtatious woman responding almost immediately to their posts at 4AM and insists you meet close to her house isn't some gang of bully scammers waiting to defraud you and/or beat you up?

    As someone says, the site should be shut down.

    It's not the site, it's the scammers should be shut down. Done Deal, Adverts and others are full of crooks waiting to pounce. Has anyone who advertised on any of these never had at least one scam mail? Plenty of my friends have.

    All you can do is to take precautions and report the user. Unfortunately, it comes with the territory nowadays.
