I'm going to fit out an area beside a shed for loading cattle. Anyone know the max width of a cattle lorry tailboard? Was thinking 8'6" would be plenty wide?

Bring a tape with you the next time you are at a mart. I know in Ennis mart they have 2 half gates. They work ok, but I think a sliding gate on one side would be the best option. Back in tight to one side then and slide the gate in to close the gap on the other side.

Thought of that alright but said I might get the answer from beside the fire without having to go to a mart. Good idea with the sliding gate.

As far as I remember the max width of a lorry is 8' 2.5" so the width of the loading ramp is going to be a couple of inches smaller.
A sliding gate is a good idea and would work with smaller (7.5ton) lorries and jeep trailers.

Sliding gate good idea...width could be a bit longer now you have a sliding gate to make up the difference?
